What to Expect
We believe in making your surgical experience as clear and comfortable as possible. Our practice philosophy is centered on patient care and physician availability, ensuring you are supported every step of the way. Here is an overview of what you can expect.

1. Your Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with an initial office appointment with Dr. Sandler. During this visit, a thorough history and physical examination will be performed to confirm your diagnosis and determine the best course of action. For some conditions, a CT scan or ultrasound may also be required. Our Practice Manager is available to help you navigate your office visits and prepare for any next steps.

2. Preparing for Your Procedure
Once your surgery is scheduled, our office will provide specific pre-operative instructions. Proper preparation is key to a successful outcome.
- Medication Adjustments: You will need to stop taking certain medications before surgery, such as aspirin, blood thinners (e.g., Coumadin, Xarelto), and anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., Ibuprofen). Always ask your doctor for specific instructions on how long to be off your medication.
- Fasting: All patients should not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery.
- Bowel Prep: For certain procedures, such as incisional or ventral hernia repairs, a bowel prep may be required.

3. The Day of Surgery
Dr. Sandler performs surgery at two locations: Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and the Montgomery Surgery Center. The majority of the procedures he performs, including most hernia repairs, are done on an outpatient basis, meaning you will be able to go home the same day. Occasionally, an overnight hospital stay may be necessary for more complex repairs.
